The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tung Wah College (TWC) to enhance collaboration in cross-disciplinary medical education, innovative research, knowledge transfer, and community outreach services.

A Synergy of Strengths

Combining HKUST’s strengths in scientific innovation and TWC’s expertise in nurturing high-caliber talent across healthcare disciplines, including nursing and allied health, this partnership focuses on five key areas:

1.    facilitate student learning and clinical rotations for HKUST and TWC students;
2.    develop and implement joint interprofessional programs that integrate cutting-edge technologies like AI;
3.    foster interdisciplinary research in pioneering fields;
4.    enhancing community services; and
5.    co-develop a Centre of Excellence to drive breakthroughs in medical education, translational research, and patient care.

HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP expressed her gratitude to TWC for this partnership.  She said, "Healthcare’s future requires collaborations across all health professionals. When doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and allied fields unite, they build efficient, patient-centered systems. At HKUST, we fuse cutting-edge research with practical solutions to address societal challenges like aging populations and chronic diseases. By integrating AI diagnostics, smart rehabilitation, and data analytics into training, we're developing next-generation healthcare leaders equipped for modern medicine's complexities – setting new benchmarks for interprofessional education in Hong Kong and beyond."

President of the TWC Prof. Sally CHAN said, “The MOU positions us to leverage our collective expertise, share best practices, and drive positive impacts to benefit both our communities. This alliance will open new doors for our students, providing invaluable learning experiences to build them into all-round healthcare professionals and exposure to cutting-edge research. It will also enable our faculty members to work alongside their counterparts at HKUST, sharing knowledge to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in the healthcare field and to foster significant improvements in the well-being of our community.  As TWC embarks on the journey to becoming a private university and a University of Applied Sciences, signing this MOU with HKUST represents a promising future of collaboration – a partnership that bridges the strengths of a traditional research-intensive university with a soon-to-be university of applied sciences, propelling our endeavors to new heights.”
