HKUSTours: Exploring Sustainability and Conservation at HKUST
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) launched HKUSTours in 2023, an innovative community engagement initiative in partnership with Kaifong Tour, a social enterprise founded by HKUST alumni. This ongoing program promotes sustainable tourism practices while fostering deeper appreciation for ecosystem conservation within our local community.

During these specialized tour, visitors learn about:
Marine Biodiversity: Participants observe a diverse marine life ranging from vibrant coral reef inhabitants to fascinating deep-sea creatures, developing a greater appreciation for the complexity and fragility of ocean ecosystems.
Conservation Techniques: Expert guides explain various methods employed to protect marine species, including breeding programs for endangered species and habitat restoration efforts. Visitors discover practical ways they can contribute to ocean conservation in their daily lives.
Community Impact
In just the past month, HKUSTours has successfully conducted six tours, creating meaningful connections between the university and the broader community. The program deepens understanding of the local landscape, culture, history, and ecosystems while strengthening ties with surrounding neighborhoods. Beyond environmental awareness, HKUSTours actively promotes environmental education and stewardship, inspiring participants to become advocates for conservation in their own communities.
