HKUST Holds Inauguration Ceremony for its First New Cornerstone Science Laboratory
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the inauguration ceremony today for the establishment of its first New Cornerstone Science Laboratory as Prof. DAI Xi, Chair Professor at the Department of Physics, has been awarded a research funding from the Tencent-initiated New Cornerstone Science Foundation. The funding will be used to conduct a five-year research project on topological materials and other areas. Officiating guests at the ceremony were HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang, HKUST Vice-President for Research and Development Prof. Tim CHENG, HKUST Dean of Science Prof. WONG Yung-Hou, Head of HKUST’s Department of Physics Prof. WANG Jiannong, Vice Chair and Secretary of the New Cornerstone Science Foundation Ms. Rose WANG, Vice President of Public Affairs of Tencent Mr. James LI Tsz-Shu, and HKUST’s New Cornerstone Investigator Prof. Dai.

HKUST Receives HK$15 Million Donation from Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation in Support of Research on Environmental Science
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a donation of HK$15 million from Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation, for advancing research and development of the University, particularly in the field of environmental science. Environmental science, sustainability and green technology is one of the six key strategic areas at HKUST. The donation from Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation would help HKUST recruit the best talent in fighting environmental challenges and promoting sustainability through innovative solutions.  In appreciation of the Foundation’s benevolent support, the University will establish a “Tang Junyuan Professorship in Environmental Science”. Shanghai Tang Junyuan Education Foundation had also supported students and funded construction of schools and teaching facilities in Shanghai and Wuxi.

HKUST Stages Groundbreaking Ceremony for Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Building
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a generous donation of HK$150 million from Dr. Martin LEE Ka-shing, Chairman of Henderson Land Group, in support of HKUST’s ongoing efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship.  In appreciation of Dr. Lee’s benevolent support, HKUST named the new research building “Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Building”.  The University celebrated the groundbreaking of its new research building today. As a new landmark of the University, Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Building will provide much-needed additional facilities for multiple disciplines in science and engineering, seeking to bring the University’s research, industrial collaboration and translational activities to the next level.

HKUST and Bright Dream Robotics Sign Licensing Agreement of Five Technologies
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held a signing ceremony with the Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics (BDR) recently to translate five technologies developed by HKUST faculty members into application.  The research achievements – spanning from more efficient building materials to a high-caliber indoor human localization system, are the first batch of scientific outputs from the HKUST-BDR Joint Research Institute (HBJRI) – a joint vehicle of HKUST and BDR to promote innovation and talent grooming.
