Opening of HKUST Energy Institute to Fuel Fresh Solutions to Sustainable Future
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today celebrated the opening of the HKUST Energy Institute, and the Institute's first forum on sustainable energy. The forum featured 16 leading scientists and energy experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan and the United States, who spoke on some of the world's most pressing energy issues.
The establishment of the Institute manifests HKUST's commitment to securing an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy future. The Institute is dedicated to providing a multi-disciplinary platform for fostering energy-related research and curricular programs that gather talent, coalitions and partnerships from across HKUST and beyond.

HKUST Presents Long Service Awards 2014
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today held its 5th Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony, honoring faculty and staff members who have served the University for 20 years.
HKUST established the Long Service Award to express appreciation and to recognize long-serving faculty and staff members whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the University's rapid rise over the past 23 years. This year, HKUST presented awards to 240 members who joined the University in 1994.
HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan, together with the vice-presidents, deans, units heads and directors attended the presentation ceremony. Awardees' families and friends were also invited to join the occasion by the University.

Business Magnate Dr Allan Zeman Sheds Light on Entrepreneurship at UC RUSAL President's Forum

At the Forum, hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, renowned businessman Dr Allan Zeman shared his insights on: 'Entrepreneurship: Turning “I Wish” into “I Will” ‘ with HKUST students, faculty and members of the public. Dr Zeman said: "One of the most important tenets for an entrepreneur is to dream big. The entrepreneur must be driven to take that dream and make it a reality. Do not dwell on the past because it has already gone. But look ahead as you can still change tomorrow."

HKUST Receives HK$20 million from Li Ka Shing Foundation to Broaden Students' Global Vision and Nurture Innovative Future Leaders
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a HK$20 million donation from the Li Ka Shing Foundation to support University initiatives to nurture globally aware and creative young leaders, including international research opportunities, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and other development activities.
Dr Li Ka-shing and the Li Ka Shing Foundation have been long-standing and visionary supporters of education and technology and have made significant contributions to advance these two areas in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. Dr Li and the Foundation recently sponsored a joint venture between Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University to open the Technion Guangdong Institute of Technology. The Institute is seeking to become a hi-tech powerhouse and to drive forward development in Guangdong Province. It also aims to strengthen hi-tech innovation links between China and the world.

HKUST Holds 21st Congregation Conferring Honorary Doctorates on Six Distinguished Academics and Leaders
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its 21st Congregation today (8 November) and conferred honorary doctorates on six eminent academics and community leaders. Chairman of the University Council Dr Marvin K T Cheung, GBS, JP, presided over today's ceremony. Dr Jack Ma Yun, Chairman of Alibaba Group, delivered HKUST's first commencement speech following the conferment of the Honorary Degrees.
HKUST honorary doctorates are awarded to outstanding individuals in recognition of their distinguished achievements and contributions. This year's recipients were (in alphabetical order):

HKUST IdeasLab Sheds Light on Brain Research and Aging at World Economic Forum "Summer Davos"
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its first specifically named HKUST IdeasLab session at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, convened in September in Dalian, China. Premier Li Keqiang officiated at the Forum, also known as the "Summer Davos", which brought together more than 2,000 political and community leaders, academics, experts and global entrepreneurs from over 90 countries and regions to discuss key global challenges and share related strategies on the theme of "Meeting the Innovation Imperative". The HKUST Ideas Lab featured an expert team from the University, led by the HKUST President, in a discussion on brain research and aging issues with other global specialists.
