International WeiQi Players Gather at HKUST for The "Four Seas Cup" Hong Kong International University Student WeiQi Competition
The inaugural "Four Seas Cup" Hong Kong International University Student WeiQi Competition was unveiled on HKUST campus. Hosted by the Hong Kong Greater Bay Area WeiQi Promotion Association, this tournament not only marks a milestone in Hong Kong's university WeiQi scene, but also serves a greater purpose of inspiring younger generations to learn and appreciate the ancient Chinese board game while promoting cultural exchange through sport. The competition features 14 teams from countries including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Brunei, as well as regions such as Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Macau. Over the course of two days, these teams will compete in a six-round event, receiving guidance from Chinese WeiQi Master Nie Weiping, World Champion of WeiQi Kong Jie, and other professional players.

Flag-raising Ceremony in Celebration of the 26th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR
HKUST hosted the flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on July 1, 2023. HKUST President Shares Insights at APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting 2023
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) president Prof. Nancy IP shared her vision for sustainability and holistic education at the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Annual Presidents’ Meeting 2023 on June 27. Themed “From Invention to Implementation – Solutions for a Sustainable Future,” the APRU meeting focused on innovative ideas and strategies to achieve goals, including carbon neutrality and the adoption of green technologies.

HKUST Strengthens Partnerships in Innovation and Technology with Singapore Consul General 
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) President Prof. Nancy IP and Associate Vice-President Dr. KIM Shin Cheul met with Singapore Consul General Mr. ONG Siew Gay at a luncheon hosted by C.G. ONG to discuss strengthening collaboration between Singapore and HKUST in innovation and technology. Prof. Ip and Dr. Kim had a fruitful discussion with C.G. Ong on the I&T sectors and start-up scenes in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Prof. Ip's extensive experience collaborating with Singapore's tertiary and research institutions has fostered close ties between HKUST and Singapore. The luncheon provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights and strengthen the existing partnership between the two regions in the realms of academia, research, and entrepreneurship. HKUST is committed to ongoing cooperation and interaction with Singapore in advancing innovation and technology.

HKUST Hosts Welcoming Reception for THE Asia Universities Summit 2023
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the welcoming reception for the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit 2023 on June 20, brought together over 100 leaders from 50 universities across 15 countries.  The reception provided an invaluable opportunity for the great minds in global higher education to connect and exchange ideas. It also showcased exceptional talents and cutting-edge products developed by HKUST members, highlighting the community's creativity and innovation to a broad audience. Local startups founded by HKUST alumni, including Germagic, sensory ZERO and XOXO Beverages also contributed to the success of the event. This networking session sparked new opportunities and rekindled collaborations, furthering our mission to make a positive impact on the world.  HKUST remains committed to building close ties with partners worldwide to collectively advance higher education.

HKUST Showcases Research Prowess for Inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed over 20 journalists representing 10 media organizations from Mainland China, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand today. The visit highlighted HKUST’s world-class research and facilities ahead of the inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum. Organized by the Hong Kong Laureate Forum, the tour provided a preview of the weeklong academic exchange from November 13-18,2023. The Forum will bring together Shaw Laureates and distinguished scientists to interact with about 200 young scientists from various parts of the world, sharing their views, experiences, and aspirations in different scientific fields.  The media delegation was greeted by HKUST Provost Prof. Guo Yike before touring state-of-the-art HKUST research facilities, including the Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility, State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience, Biological Cryo-EM Center and Nanosystem Fabrication Facility.
