HKUST Strengthens Partnership with Consul General of India
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed Ms. Satwant KHANALIA, Consul General of India in Hong Kong and Macau, visiting HKUST campus on June 1.
Ms. Khanalia had a fruitful meeting with HKUST leadership and faculty including Dr. KIM Shin Cheul, HKUST Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer); Prof. Emily NASON, Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admission Office; Prof. Lancelot JAMES, Chair Professor from School of Business and Management; Prof. Abhiroop MUKHERJEE from Department of Finance; and Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs Ms. Yvonne LI.
Ms. Khanalia also engaged in an interaction session with Indian students currently studying at HKUST and invited them to collaborate with the Consulate to promote Indian culture in Hong Kong. Ms. Khanalia commended HKUST's innovative approach to education and research, and its commitment to supporting international students.

HKUST Thought Leaders Chart the Future of Higher Education at Times Higher Education Digital Universities Asia Summit
Faculty from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently shared their valuable insights on the future of higher education at the Times Higher Education (THE) Digital Universities Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur from May 8 to 10. The summit featured over 30 sessions and convened more than 200 delegates, including higher education leaders, industry partners, and policymakers from over 8 countries in Asia.
At the summit, Prof. HUI Pan, Director of HKUST’s Metaverse and Computational Creativity Center (MC2) shared the latest developments of MetaHKUST, the university's campus in the metaverse; and explored the potential and challenges of building a Mixed Reality classroom. He also participated in a panel with speakers from Thailand, China, and Malaysia to discuss the possibilities of using Extended Reality in higher education.

HKUST Expert Shares Insights at World Economic Forum Growth Summit
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Dean of Humanities and Social Science Prof. Kellee was invited to share her expertise at The Growth Summit hosted by the World Economic Forum. The summit took place from May 2-3, 2023 at the WEF headquarters in Geneva, convening leaders across business, government, civil society, international organizations and academia leaders working across sectors, industries and geographic boundaries. It aimed to advance future opportunities and tackle current challenges through collaboration and innovation.

HKUST Receives Director Xia Baolong of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed the Vice Chairman of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr. XIA Baolong, to the campus on April 17.
Following the release of the nation’s "14th Five-Year Plan ", which aims to develop Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub, both the Central and Hong Kong SAR governments have provided much-needed support and assistance for the city’s development in innovation and scientific research. Accompanied by Chief Executive Mr. John LEE and Secretary for Education Dr. CHOI Yuk-lin, Director Xia was briefed by HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM and President Prof. Nancy IP, on the development strategy of the university. HKUST’s senior management presented an overview of achievements in talent cultivation, technological innovation, and commercialization of research.

HKUST and KTH Royal Institute of Technology Forge Collaborative Partnership in Research and Education
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) on April 17 to advance research and education.
HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang and faculty representatives engaged in a productive discussion with KTH delegation, including Prof. Stefan ÖSTLUND, Vice President for Global Relations; Prof. Per BERGLUND, Deputy Head of the Department of Industrial Biotechnology; and Prof. Urban WESTERGREN, Director of China Relations, School of Engineering Sciences, etc. This collaborative initiative seeks to strengthen the partnership between HKUST and KTH through enhanced faculty and student exchange programs, providing faculty and students with invaluable opportunities to expand their knowledge and enrich their learning experiences.

HKUST Provost Shares Insights at the AUA Presidents’ Forum 2023
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Provost Prof. Yike GUO participated in the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Summit 2023, held from May 11-13 at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. The forum, themed "Shaping Higher Education in an Evolving Asia: Creation, Integration, and Innovation," brought together leaders from fifteen top-ranked Asian higher education institutions to explore the opportunities and challenges related to Asian higher education.
Prof. Guo shared his insights on the topic of Sustainable Universities and Student Sustainability Competence at the AUA Presidents’ Forum 2023. Engaging in meaningful discussions with leaders from various universities, they explored the collective efforts of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

HKUST Hosts Global Dialogue Series with Consul General of France to Explore Blue Economy and Sustainability
Over two-thirds of our home—the BluePlanet—is covered by oceans. They also make up more than 90% of habitable space and are a treasure trove of resources. How can we harness innovation to drive sustainable development in marine technology and the blue economy? The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the Global Dialogue Series Seminar to explore blue economy and sustainability.
Ms. Christile DRULHE, The Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, was invited to speak on sustainability issues, with a focus on the blue economy and joint international effort. The seminar, moderated by Prof. King Lun YEUNG, Director of the France-HKUST Innovation Hub, highlighted the strategic significance of ocean governance, sustainable infrastructure, and marine research.

HKUST Students Explore Sustainable Future at Asian Universities Alliance Youth Forum
3 Student representatives from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently participated in the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Youth Forum 2023, hosted by the United Arab Emirates University from March 12-18.
Under the theme “Uniting for a Sustainable Future: Asian Youth in Action,” the forum gathered 43 students from 12 leading universities across Asia. Through interactive workshops, speeches and discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the various sustainability issues affecting the region.
HKUST students also had the chance to interact and exchange with students from diverse backgrounds and experienced the vibrancy of Asian cultures firsthand during the forum.
As a pioneering global university, HKUST is committed to empowering the next generation of change-makers who will chart the course for a sustainable future.
