HKUST and WashU Collaborate on Engineering Education and Research
A high-level delegation led by James M. McKelvey Prof. Aaron BOPICK, Dean of McKelvey School of Engineering (McKelvey Engineering) of Washington University in St Louis (WashU), visited the Hong Kong Universtiy of Science and Technology (HKUST) on September 20, 2019 to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a framework within which cooperation may develop between the two leading universities in the world.

HKUST Signs MoC with China Banking Association, Shenzhen University, and China Construction Bank University to Co-develop First FinTech Qualification Framework in China
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the China Banking Association, Shenzhen University, and the China Construction Bank University to co-develop a professional qualification for Fintech practitioners in China. This collaboration manifests a pioneering effort between Mainland China and Hong Kong to establish a nation-wide qualification framework and enhance professionalism for the fast-moving FinTech industry.
As a major FinTech intellectual powerhouse in Asia, HKUST Business School is not only undertaking a major government-funded research project on FinTech, but also offering training programs to nurture talent for the industry. With unrivaled knowledge in the field, HKUST is the only institution from Hong Kong represented in this meaningful cross-border collaboration.

MoC Signed between HKUST and ZA International to Strengthen Collaboration in Fintech and Insurtech
The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) and ZhongAn Technologies International Group Ltd (ZA International) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to open up a new stream of opportunities for faculty and students in the fields of Fintech and Insurtech.
The HKUST Business School aspires to become a major intellectual powerhouse of Fintech in Asia and is undertaking a major Fintech research project funded by the Research Grants Council under its Theme-based Research Scheme. The project examines the impacts of Fintech on Hong Kong and looks into ways to contribute to the development of the city into a global Fintech hub.

A. Kwok Sports Aerodynamics Science Initiative HKUST & HKSI Join Hands to Enhance Performance of Cycling Team
Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) Executive Director Mr. Adam KWOK Kai-fai will donate HK$6 million to the Sports Aerodynamics Science Initiative Project launched by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to help enhance elite cyclists’ performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Mr. Adam Kwok, Executive Director of SHKP, Dr. Trisha LEAHY, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and Prof. ZHANG Xin, Chair Professor of Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of HKUST, signed an agreement to kick off the “A. HKUST Joins Hands with APRU to Examine Transformation of Work in Asia-Pacific
The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has joined a research collaboration with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) to look closely into the impacts and opportunities of technology on workforce and living quality in Asia-Pacific economies.
Digital automation is transforming the world with unprecedented scope and speed, and its impact is compelling, including the demand for new roles and skills in many sectors. This joint HKUST-APRU Project connects ten scholars from leading universities across the APRU network to examine the changes presented by rapid digitalization in our society.

HKUST and HKSI Join Forces to Enhance Dual Career Pathways for Elite Athletes
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to facilitate dual career pathways in sports and academics for elite athletes in Hong Kong.
Under this MoU, HKSI can nominate full-time elite athletes for admission to undergraduate programs of HKUST. The University will offer flexible academic accommodations, including study load balancing, re-scheduling in examinations and adjustment in class attendance requirement, on a case-by-case basis. An advisory committee comprising faculty members and sports specialists will be formed to oversee the athletes’ learning progress and address their individual needs. To accommodate their intensive trainings and competition schedules, HKUST may extend their study to a maximum of twice the normative program duration.

Fighting Neurodegenerative Diseases
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) together with Boston Children’s Hospital – a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital (Harvard), the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging at Stanford University School of Medicine (Stanford), and University College London (UCL) today, signifying a partnership to engage in advanced translational neuroscience research.
The momentous occasion was witnessed by The Hon Mrs. Carrie LAM Cheng Yuet-Ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR); Mr. Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing, Council Chairman of HKUST; Prof. Wei SHYY, President of HKUST; Mr. Nicholas W YANG, Secretary for Innovation and Technology; and diplomatic representatives including Mr. Andrew HEYN, British Consul General in Hong Kong.
