HKUST Enters into Partnership with the Global Association of Risk Professionals
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) has entered into an academic partnership with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). The partnership entails that the HKUST MSc in Investment Management Program aligns with industry-recognized standards, and thus provides better opportunity for students to become globally qualified risk management professionals. GARP is a not-for-profit organization and the only globally recognized association for risk managers. The association aims to advance the risk profession through education and the promotion of best practices. It offers certification for financial risk management leading to a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation, which is the most respected and widely recognized certification for financial risk management.

HKUST and WeChat Establish Joint Lab on Artificial Intelligence Technology
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrated the opening of the WeChat-HKUST Joint Laboratory on Artificial Intelligence Technology (WHAT LAB) on 26 November. The Joint Laboratory  is dedicated to fostering artificial intelligence and big data research to improve people’s living and advance the frontiers of knowledge, marking a milestone in the collaboration of WeChat and the higher education sector. WHAT LAB, located in HKUST, will be led by Prof Qiang Yang, New Bright Professor of Engineering, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Research areas of WHAT LAB include intelligent robotic systems, natural language processing, data mining, speech recognition and understanding. The Lab will bring together top researchers in the development of innovative artificial intelligence application with the database of WeChat.

HKUST Signs Hosting Agreement with The International Mathematical Olympiad Hong Kong Committee Limited on the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad 2016
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Hosting Agreement with The International Mathematical Olympiad Hong Kong Committee Limited (IMOHKCL) to be the Host University of the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, said IMO is more than a Mathematics competition. “I am pleased that Hong Kong will play host to organizing the IMO again next year after it was first held in Hong Kong in 1994,” he said. “We will make good use of this opportunity to build the global reputation for Hong Kong; attract young, talented students from all over the world, as well as promote mathematics and science education - especially among young local people. No platform is more ideal than the IMO to bring these messages across to the whole world.”

HKUST Hosts Coursera’s Second Annual Asia Regional Workshop
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted Coursera’s second annual Asia Regional Workshop in Hong Kong. Around 180 representatives from major Asian universities joined the three-day event (15-17 October) for vibrant sessions about Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), online and blended pedagogy, and emerging trends in higher education. The Workshop was hosted by HKUST in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong, bringing together university officials, faculty members, instructional designers, program managers, technology specialists, and course staff from across Couresera’s partner organizations in the region. Coursera is the world’s largest open online education provider.

HKUST Signed Framework Agreement with Digital China to Build Smart City Research Institute
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and China's largest integrated IT service provider Digital China Holdings Limited (Digital China) signed a framework agreement to build the Smart City (Hong Kong) Research Institute with an aim to foster the development of smart city in Hong Kong and Mainland China. According to the agreement, HKUST and Digital China will work together on the strategic planning of the smart city and the development of key information technologies of big data for the smart city. The two parties will collectively build an experience center of the smart city and apply for various government sponsored research programs and important academic projects. HKUST will mobilize its research talents and facilities for the cooperation and leverage its advantages in science and technology research, while Digital China will leverage its advantages in IT planning and consulting, as well as development of solutions.

HKUST Hosts the First National Challenge Cup Theme-Based Competition on Smart Green Cities
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is the first local university to co-host the “National Challenge Cup”, a prestigious competition branded as the Olympiad of Science and Technology for university students. HKUST held the newly-introduced Theme-based Competition of the National Challenge Cup in which students from various countries showcased their creative ideas and innovation solutions of developing Smart Green Cities.

The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (the HKUST Business School) joined hands with the world’s top alliance of university business schools CEMS1 to hold its first corporate benchmarking conference in Asia. The conference is a highly-regarded forum for top international companies to discuss recruitment and staffing procedures in a neutral environment.The two-day conference held in Hong Kong on 15 and 16 June 2015 provided participating companies, including ABB, Aon Hewitt, EF Education First, Hilti, LinkedIn, Maersk Line, The Ritz-Carlton, United Overseas Bank, among others, with the opportunity to compare and evaluate methods for attracting and retaining high potential graduates as they enter the workforce.

HKUST Co-hosts The 2nd My Toy Design Competition with Toy Industry Leaders to Foster Local Creative Culture
The 2nd My Toy Design Competition co-hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Hong Kong Toys Council and the Toys Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong Limited was concluded today. HKUST co-hosted the competition with toy industry leaders with the aims of fostering local creative culture, bringing innovative ideas to the industry, cultivating the creativity of students and designers, as well as giving them a chance to understand more about the toy industry.
