President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Prof Tony Chan led a delegation to the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference in Davos, Switzerland. In Davos, HKUST was the only Asian university to conduct an IdeasLab, where four professors shared their insights with some of the world’s top minds and decision makers on how a seamless merging of virtual realities and our physical world could improve human life. The other six universities were invited to hold IdeasLab at Winter Davos this year: Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon.

HKUST Business School and CAIA Association Announce Academic Partnership to Promote Alternative Investment Education Across Asia
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association, a not-for-profit organization recognized globally as the leader in alternative investment education, today announced an academic partnership. Under the partnership, students in the HKUST’s Business School will have access to the CAIA Association's curriculum and events, and be eligible to apply for scholarships to earn the CAIA Charter. The partnership comes on the back of CAIA’s rapid growth in Asia Pacific markets and HKUST’s stellar ascent since its inception in 1991.

HKUST President Leads Delegation to the Prestigious World Economic Forum “Winter Davos”
President Tony Chan of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has been invited to share his insights with top global leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting – which will be held between 21 and 24 January 2015 in Davos, Switzerland. In addition, four HKUST professors will hold an IdeasLab at Winter Davos – HKUST is the only university in Asia to hold an IdeasLab at Davos this year. Only six other universities are holding IdeasLab at Davos--including Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, etc.

HKUST IdeasLab showcases emerging technologies’ changes to human experience at World Economic Forum “Summer Davos”
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) offered a glimpse into how human experience would be enhanced by emerging technologies at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, widely known as the “Summer Davos”, in September in Tianjin, China.Officiated by Premier Li Keqiang,more than 1,500 political and community leaders, academics, experts and global entrepreneurs from over 90 countries and regions engaged to address the challenge of technological advance presented and discuss how innovation can generate better value to society under this year’s theme, “Creating Value through Innovation”.

HKUST First Local Institution to Co-host “National Challenge Cup”
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a memorandum with Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) today to map out the details of co-hosting the “National Challenge Cup” – a competition branded as the Olympiad of Science and Technology for university students. It is the first time for a local university to co-host the event in the Cup’s 25 years of history.The biennial "National Challenge Cup" is a mega contest in academic and technological innovation for university students in China. Since Tsinghua University first hosted the event, it has turned into an iconic competition on science and innovation with its scale growing from a few hundred participants out of 19 institutes, to nearly 7,000 students from over 400 universities. Winners included a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, nearly 10 heads of state key laboratories and over 220 professors and doctoral advisors.

HKUST Partners with Thales to Boost Innovation and Technological Development
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Thales have entered into a collaborative agreement, marking a milestone in the joint efforts to boost innovation, nurture young engineering innovators, and serve the development of smart cities in the region.
Under the agreement, HKUST and Thales will work closely on collaborative research projects including next-generation information technology on aeronautical, space, defense, transportation, security and x-ray imaging. The agreement will also see the exchanges of researchers and mutual visits, student internship and co-nourishment of engineers.
