HKUST Explores Marine Sciences at French Science Festival
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the French Science Festival from October 6-7, 2024, on campus. Organized in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, the festival showcased HKUST's world-class capabilities in marine science research and education. Through a diverse range of public activities including talks, hands-on workshops, virtual reality experiences, and tours of HKUST's state-of-the-art Ocean Research Facility, participants delved deep into marine ecosystems and conservation.

HKUST Convenes Consul Generals to Navigate the Future Course of Belt and Road Initiative
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Belt and Road Forum, organized by Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs and co-hosted by the Division of Public Policy, themed "Navigating New Frontiers: The Future of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)," concluded successfully on October 7. Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered on campus to explore how the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been fostering international cooperation and enhancing connectivity and prosperity.

HKUST Chairs AEARU Meetings to Foster International Collaboration 
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Prof. WANG Yang chaired the 55th Board of Directors Meeting and 30th Annual General Meeting of the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) at the University of Macau on September 27, 2024. This significant event convened distinguished delegates from 15 leading East Asian institutions, enhancing regional collaboration. During the "Research Collaboration in East Asian Universities" workshop, senior leaders from Fudan University, Tohoku University, University of Macau, and Yonsei University showcased their institutions' research excellence and global perspectives. The discussions were particularly meaningful as they marked a vibrant resurgence of collaborative activities following a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

In a remarkable gathering that echoed with ambition and innovation, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) opened its door to the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders (YGLs) Education Module 2024. HKUST stands alone as the first university in Greater China to organize this landmark event. Now in its second year, the five-day program offers a world-class platform for 34 trailblazing young leaders and entrepreneurs from 22 countries and regions – spanning Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East – to engage in fruitful discussions on the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) with our faculty members and acclaimed scholars in this field.

HKUST Promotes Energy Transition and Innovation with Consulate General of Germany in Hong Kong
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) joined forces with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany to host the "Energy in Transition - Powering Tomorrow" exhibition from September 16-19. The exhibition was graced by the presence of Stefan BREDOHL, Consul General of Germany to Hong Kong and Macau, who gave a special sharing session on campus. HKUST Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Prof. WANG Yang, and Prof. SHAO Minhua, Director of HKUST Energy Institute warmly welcomed Consul General Bredohl and his delegation. CG Bredohl delivered a special sharing on Germany’s roadmap of energy transition in Germany, the challenges and the significant role of research and innovation, followed with an engaging discussion with over 60 students.

HKUST Strengthens Partnerships with UNESCO Initiatives
HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, Prof. WANG Yang, led a delegation to Paris last week to share his profound insights into the revolutionary era of digital learning in education at the UNESCO Digital Learning Week 2024.    Prof. Wang and Prof. Kani CHEN, Program Director of MSc in Financial Mathematics and Co-Director of Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program, participated in a breakout session titled “Leveraging Digital Transformation for Green Skills, Green Jobs, and Youth Climate Action” on September 5, discussing how blockchain, AI and green transformation of education industry could shape our sustainable future.
