HKUST and Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile Forge Stronger Collaborative Ties
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (ENAC) for insightful discussions on collaboration on July 3. The ENAC representatives met with HKUST's French Professor Stéphane REDONNET of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and had a fruitful discussion on collaborations in PG student mobility programs and joint research. HKUST is the only local university receiving ENAC's Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship offered by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau. The grant aims to promote innovation for a sustainable future and allow the awardees to conduct research related to sustainability in France. Dr. Dajung KIM from HKUST's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was the Laureate of the Fellowship in 2023 and is now embarking on her faculty career at ENAC as an Assistant Professor.

HKUST President Attends APRU Meeting to Strengthen Sustainability Collaboration Between Universities
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) President Prof. Nancy IP attended the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Annual Presidents’ Meeting at the University of Auckland from June 24-26. The three-day meeting gathered university leaders from APRU’s 61 member institutions to explore and exchange insights to tackle climate change challenges rippling through the Pacific Rim. Prof. Ip participated in an insightful panel discussion, exchanging perspectives with other panelists on innovative and transdisciplinary research to address pressing climate change issues. Throughout the discussions, Prof. Ip emphasized HKUST’s commitment to collaborating with universities worldwide to share best practices, innovations, and strategies to achieve sustainability and net-zero carbon emissions.

HKUST Drives Responsible AI Integration in Higher Education with APRU
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) collaborated with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) to host the Foresight Workshop on campus from June 13-14, 2024. The event attracted over 40 international academic experts, key practitioners specialising in generative AI and education, university students, and education technology start-ups. Through a meticulous and collaborative process, various future scenarios were developed to provide members of the education industry with insights into the multifaceted opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the realm of AI integration within higher education. As a leader in embracing GenAI in higher education, HKUST will continue pioneering innovative approaches to integrate AI into higher education in the future.

HKUST and Université Paris Dauphine Forge New Bonds
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from Université Paris Dauphine, one of the 11 member institutions of PSL, on June 14. HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang and Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Prof. QU Huamin had meeting with the delegation led by Prof. Sophie MÉRITET, Vice-President for International Affairs of Université Paris Dauphine. Both institutions explored potential collaboration opportunities on strategic topics such as artificial intelligence and sustainable development, as well as student exchanges and joint research projects. The delegation then toured HKUST's state-of-the-art facilities, including the Lee Shau Kee Library. This visit paved the way for new impactful partnerships between two like-minded institutions. HKUST remains dedicated to fostering exchanges with partners in France, expanding avenues for more collaboration.

HKUST Forges New Bonds with Belgian Partners
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed a delegation from Ghent University, Belgium to the campus on June 7. The visiting group comprised faculty from Ghent's main campus, Global Campus in South Korea, and Ghent University East Asia Platform in Beijing. Joining the university delegation was Mr. Siegfried VERHEIJKE, Commercial and Economic Consul from the Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong. Together, they engaged in a fruitful exchange with HKUST's Prof. George YUAN, Faculty Representative from the School of Engineering, and Prof. Kristiaan NEYTS, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies (SKL of ADT). The meeting allowed for rich discussion of the latest developments at both universities and exploration of potential collaborations spanning student exchanges to joint research initiatives.

HKUST Showcases Three Decades of Success at High-level Forum and Strengthens Ties with Esteemed Korean Institutions in Seoul
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) sought to strengthen ties with South Korean institutions and industries, as the University’s senior management participated in a high-profile forum in Seoul yesterday and today, and engaged with top universities and incubators in the country to explore collaboration opportunities in education, research and knowledge transfer. HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP, the only representative from a Hong Kong university, delivered a special speech at the Seoul Forum, joining distinguished scholars in AI and robotics from renowned institutions such as Caltech and MIT, industrial leaders from global giants including IBM and Samsung, as well as esteemed policymakers and experts across different sectors. The two-day forum was hosted by the Seoul Economic Daily.

HKUST Showcases Technological Innovations for Cultural Heritage at UNESCO Conference
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang, participated in the UNESCO Conference "Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of the Hague Convention”, held in The Hague on May 4, as a panel speaker for the session "New Technologies and the Protection of Cultural Property". Prof. Wang shared insights on the potential utilization of cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, satellite remote-sensing, and drone applications to enhance the protection and monitoring of cultural heritage. He also highlighted the transformative role of Big Data and AI in this vital field.
