16 teams from HKUST showcased their innovative prowess at the Hong Kong Techathon 2026, jointly organized by HKSTP and 15 leading universities and institutions in Hong Kong. Remarkably, these teams secured 17 out of 46 awards, including the Best Presentation Award, three Gold Awards, five Silver Awards, four Bronze Awards, and four Merit Awards.

The team Stellerus Technology Limited claimed the top Platinum Award for their Feilian Constellation.The award presentation ceremony was officiated by Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr. David NG from Sino Group, with HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP and HKUST Vice-President for Research and Development Prof. Tim CHENG in attendance. Finalist teams presented their pioneering projects to a distinguished audience of industry partners, investors, and academic leaders.

This milestone anniversary features a record-breaking 348 teams from Hong Kong and 22 other countries and regions across five continents, including Australia, the United States, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Japan, India and Kazakhstan, showcasing the competition’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovative talents and promote collaboration and idea exchanges between local and international entrepreneurs.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today extended its warmest congratulations to the nation and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) for the exceptional performance in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) 2025 Global Innovation Index (GII). The "Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou" cluster has been ranked the 1st largest innovation cluster in the Global Innovation Index 2025 top 100 ranking, ascending from its previous position and marking a historic achievement. This rise to the top is underscored by exceptional performance metrics, with the cluster filing 2,292 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, publishing 3,775 scientific articles, and securing 135 venture capital deals—all per 1 million inhabitants over the past five years. This data reflects the cluster’s unparalleled growth and dynamic capacity for world-leading innovation.

“HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition 2025”, jointly organized by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Sino Group, is now open for applications. Marking its 15th anniversary, this year’s competition offers a prize pool of over HK$1 million to empower winning teams in establishing or scaling their ventures. New additions include AI Workshops, which will feature expert-led sessions on machine learning, data analysis, and AI integration, equipping participants with cutting-edge skills to drive social innovation while fostering a vibrant innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem in Hong Kong.
