A team of 5 HKUST School of Engineering (SENG) students brought home the championship at the Kerry Logistics Hackathon in February, a competition that sought to explore the possibility of using drones to help run smart warehouses. Joined by 50 local undergraduate and postgraduate students in 8 groups, as well as 50 industry participants, the competition comprised two sessions. In the “Drone Flying Competition” session, contestants had to create the best path for the drone to race and capture information about the warehouse at the Kerry Cargo Centre in Kwai Chung, by leveraging the power of autonomous drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in this 24-hour overnight hackathon. Contestants were judged on criteria such as how accurate, efficient, stable and well-planned their drone flights were.

The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) Program is ranked the top in the world in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global EMBA Rankings 2019.For the third time, QS profiles the world’s top EMBA programs, including a separate chart for the best joint EMBA programs offered as partnerships across more than one school. The Kellogg-HKUST EMBA has not only ranked the best joint EMBA program for the second time in three years, but also scored a perfect 100 in two of the five indicators used to compile the ranking, namely “employer reputation” and “career outcomes”. Launched in 1998, the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA is the first joint EMBA program in Asia and has maintained its leading position for over two decades. In addition to the latest QS Rankings, the Program made a record-setting achievement last year by topping the Financial Times Global EMBA Rankings for the ninth time.

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) scientists won three of the seven awards presented by the Croucher Foundation this year.  They are Prof. WEN Zilong, Professor of Division of Life Science, who received the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship 2019; and Dr. NGUYEN Tuan Anh, Assistant Professor of the Division of Life Science as well as Dr.

The Croucher Foundation held the presentation ceremony of the Innovation and Senior Research Fellowship Awards today (December 7), honoring seven distinguished scholars from four universities including The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), for their excellent scientific research achievements. The Honorable Mr. Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, was the Guest of Honor at the ceremony. This year, three awardees were presented with the Croucher Innovation Awards, three with the Croucher Senior Research Fellowships and one with the Croucher Senior Medical Research Fellowship. The Executive MBA (EMBA) Program jointly offered by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Kellogg School of Management is ranked No.1 in the world in the latest Financial Times (FT) Global EMBA Rankings. This year marks the ninth time the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program has topped this highly respected international chart and comes during the Program’s 20th anniversary. Prof. Wei SHYY, President of HKUST, congratulated the EMBA team on the repeated success of this unique partnership program. “We are delighted to see the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program receive the world’s top status for three consecutive years. Its illustrious success not only reaffirms the leading position of HKUST in offering quality programs for international business leaders, but also represents a source of pride to HKUST.”

Stella TONG, Year 1 student of Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program, was awarded Second Prize in 5th National Students Art Exhibition Award-Drama Category with her excellent Peking Opera performance.

Dr. Jason CHAN Kwan-Kit, Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), received the University Grants Committee (UGC) Teaching Award 2018 under the category of Early Career Faculty Members today, in recognition of his outstanding teaching performance and achievements. HKUST President Prof. Wei SHYY congratulated Dr. Chan on winning the award, “HKUST is committed to fostering innovation, open-mindedness, and a can-do spirit.  We strive to nurture a diverse and conducive culture to allow all our members to reach their full potential and achieve their aspirations, so that they can contribute to the society by conquering challenges that matter.  I am very proud of Dr. Chan, whose innovation and dedication to teaching excellence earned him not only the recognition from his students and peers, but also this great honor at such a young age.  I congratulate him sincerely for his outstanding accomplishments.”

Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program (RMBI) students are required to complete a capstone project in group in their final study year. Capstone Projects are sponsored by companies which offer real business cases for students to apply their knowledge to analyze the problems and provide solutions. Best 5 Capstone Projects are awarded to recognize students' efforts and achievements.
