The robust support of the University community has been a vital catalyst for The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s (HKUST) research breakthroughs and educational excellence. In recognition of Dr. Allen SHI’s generous donation, the University recently held a naming ceremony for the Dr. Allen L. T. Shi Information Technology Laboratory. Located in the Lee Shau Kee Business Building on the Clearwater Bay campus, this state-of-the-art facility plays a fundamental role in supporting diverse education needs of HKUST students. The donation, channeled through Lop Tak Charity Foundation established by Dr. Shi, will fuel the University’s research innovation and expand student learning opportunities.

由中國科學院國際合作局、中國載人航天工程辦公室及聯合國教科文組織共同指導，並由中國科學院空間應用工程與技術中心、香港科技大學（科大）和中國科學院香港創新研究院聯合主辦的「第二屆『一帶一路』空間科學應用國際培訓班」，於今天（2025年7月24日）至8月5日在科大舉辦。 是次培訓班首次在香港舉行，中國科學院空間應用工程與技術中心副主任（主持工作）王強、中國科學院國際合作局副局長吳艶、聯合國教科文組織基礎科學司司長胡少鋒、香港特區政府工業專員(創新及科技)葛明博士、埃及航天局局長Sherif SEDKY，以及科大副校長（研究及發展）鄭光廷教授出席開幕活動並致辭。一眾來自埃及、泰國、保加利亞、瑞士、巴基斯坦等國家及地區的學員嘉賓，以及負責擔任培訓班導師的科大土木及環境工程學系講座教授兼太空科學與技術研究院院長蘇慧教授、聯席院長兼機械及航空航天工程學系于宏宇教授及高揚教授亦出席了開幕活動。 中國科學院空間應用工程與技術中心副主任（主持工作）王強在致辭時表示，首屆培訓班於北京舉辦，本屆特意選址香港，意在充分發揮粵港澳大灣區核心引擎的區位優勢、開放科研環境及跨境合作平台作用。他強調，香港作為聯通內地與世界的橋梁，將為「一帶一路」沿線及更多國家參與者創造合作新契機，推動空間科技成果全球共享。

Professors YU Jianzhen and JI Yan from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have been selected for fellowship awards under the 2025/26 Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) and Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) respectively. Their research projects, which focus on atmospheric analytical chemistry and investigating AI-powered imperfect competition in financial markets, have secured over HK$13.6 million in grants.

香港科技大學（科大）今年共有三名學生運動員，將代表香港特區出征德國萊茵-魯爾世界大學生運動會（世大運），其中兩位是乒乓球港隊女將﹕工商管理學院的吳詠琳同學和江芷林同學，而理學院的陳建鋒同學則將出戰跆拳道項目，矢志為港爭光。 乒壇雙姝攜手出征 工商管理學院四年級學生吳詠琳（Pedrey NG Wing-Lam）是香港乒乓球隊主力隊員，現世界女雙排名第11位。這位實力派女將去年12月在成都舉行的國際乒聯混合團體世界盃中勇奪銅牌。這次世大運，她將參加女子單打、雙打、混雙及團體賽四個項目，力爭佳績。 同樣來自商學院的一年級新生江芷林（Gilliam KONG Tsz-Lam）是香港乒乓球壇的「明日之星」。她在2025年國際乒聯世界乒乓球錦標賽總決賽中與搭檔挺進女雙16強，展現實力。今年她將首次亮相世大運舞台，出戰女子單打、雙打及團體賽三個項目。 跆拳道健兒蓄勢待發 理學院三年級學生陳建鋒（Jacky CHAN Kin-Fung），將代表香港出戰男子54公斤級跆拳道賽事。自去年起，陳同學多次代表香港參加國際賽事，並積極備戰本屆世大運，決心在這個國際舞台上再創佳績。 今屆世大運將於7月16日至27日舉行，集合來自全球170多個國家和地區的參賽選手。75名港隊大學生運動員健兒，將參與競逐10個賽事項目。  

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is pleased to announce the launch of WavyOcean 2.0, an immersive digital twin platform of regional earth system. This upgraded platform deeply integrates digital technologies with innovative research in Earth system, creating the first "dynamic digital mirror" for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and China's coastal regions. With these enhancement, WavyOcean 2.0 offers the latest data on ocean currents, marine ecology, atmospheric conditions, and the distribution of rivers and pollutants in terrestrial watersheds, along with comprehensive data analysis tools and immersive visualization interactive functions. 

In the vibrant halls of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Dr. Meike SAUERWEIN, Lecturer of the Division of Environment and Sustainability, is igniting a quiet revolution. Her course, ENVR 1080: The Smart Consumer – Uncovering the Hidden Story Behind the Product Label, is far more than a typical sustainability course—it is an eye-opening experience that makes students rethink their everyday purchases and their ripple effects on the environment and society.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed three agreements with Tsinghua University (Tsinghua) to foster collaboration in research and education. These initiatives include launching a joint Integrated Master-PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering, an executive education program and joint research funding.   Unleashing New Opportunities in Education and Research through Collaboration HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM and HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP recently received a Tsinghua University delegation led by Secretary of the Party Committee Prof. QIU Yong, alongside Tsinghua Council Deputy Chairman Prof. YANG Bin and other senior Tsinghua officials.  The delegation witnessed the signing of the agreements between the two institutions. Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club Sustainable Campus Consumer Programme (JCSCCP) aims to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. The programme’s closing ceremony was held at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) Tai Po campus on 29 May 2025. The JCSCCP was launched in 2021 and concluded in May 2025, with a donation of over HK$15 million by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The programme was coordinated by the Sustainability/ Net-Zero Office at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, was a collaborative endeavour by the eight UGC-funded universities through The Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC). It targeted students in the eight UGC-funded university communities to encourage positive behaviour change in leading a more sustainable lifestyle through various project themes under the three programme pillars.
